US elected officials scored abysmally on a test measuring their civic knowledge, with an average grade of just 44 percent, the group that organized the exam said Thursday. Ordinary citizens did not fare much better, scoring just 49 percent correct on the 33 exam questions compiled by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI).
Comment: Do notice - John Q. Public did better than the US elected officials. The only good part of this survey is that we now fully understand who has driven the great nation that the US was into the ground.

We should meditate on the full meaning of that exchange between God and Samuel to mark the Feast that we should all celebrate with all our hearts and minds.

....the Bishops’ Conference of the Dominican Republic warned this week that the passage of a law on religious associations would generate serious risks, including the celebration of marriages by unqualified ministers and the creation of “make-your-own churches.”? (1)
One of these risks, the bishop's indicated, is “the possibility of celebrating marriages presided by ministers without sufficient preparation and experience, which would become a serious problem without the presence of a legal structure on which to rest such affairs, such as in the case of matrimonial law which is almost non-existent among religious denominations.”
Comment: These poor individuals simply cannot grasp the reality that if they "offered a good product" - that is, the Good News as Jesus delivered them - all who are counted among the Elect in their area would flock to their Churches and "the other" would be the ones who would attend to those "make-your-own churches." They are concerned about "celebration of marriages by unqualified ministers" - What about qualified ministers celebrating invalid marriages as we have clearly pointed out to their superiors? (2)

....an international team of researchers has discovered a puzzling surplus of high-energy electrons bombarding Earth from space? (1)
The source of these cosmic rays is unknown, but it must be close to the solar system and it could be made of dark matter.
Comment: Could it be that God is making sure that "all the bases are covered" and "all His options are on the table"? We would not lose sleep over it - it just seemed amusing in a type of humor matching the matter.

What will be the full impact of that, we do not know... although - with the exception of Divine Instructions - less frequent postings may be one of the results.

....according to a professor at an Opus Dei university in Rome, young ecclesial movements are "new wine" for the Church, and there is still time to put them into "new wineskins" ?
Luis Navarro spoke of the ecclesial movements and the recent magisterium in an address last
week during the inauguration of the academic year at the Pontifical University Holy Cross.
Bishop Javier Echavarría, chancellor of the university and prelate of Opus Dei, attended the event.
Navarro noted that already in 1985, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger referred to movements as a "new generation in the Church. He said a renewal was "tranquil, but effectively on the way."
Recalling the words of Jesus, "People do not put new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved," the professor concluded that "in the case of the movements and the related magisterium of the Pope, we are still in time to put the new wine in new wineskins." (1)

Comment: When Jesus made that statement [Matthew 9, Mark 2 and Luke 5] His symbolism was: The Good News : the new wine ; and The new organization, the Church : the new skins.
Therefore, what they (they = Opus Dei) are saying is that the new ecclesial movements (new ecclesial movements = Opus Dei) is the new wine which is replacing the old wine, the Good News as delivered by Jesus Christ; and that from the magisterium of Benedict XVI will spring the new organization - replacing the Church as established by Jesus Christ.
Once again satan has served God well - the only problem is that the endemic and quasi universal blindness will not allow most of the Faithful to see what (2) and who (3) is right before their eyes. This is not new.... Mr. Gorbachev said on Portuguese National Television: "My time has not come yet" (4) and no one caught on.

....the nation's Roman Catholic bishops vowed Tuesday to forcefully confront the Obama administration over its support for abortion rights? (1)
They do not learn, do they?
They can confront all they want, all whom they desire, and it will be to no avail - only when they realize that the problem lies in the failed Evangelization, the solution will dawn.
If those spiritually and intellectually challenged well fed and kept men would only review what Don John Bosco proved for over 40 years, (2) they will realize that non-political Evangelization can indeed change the world.

....the key message in the story about the widow's mite is not that she gave all she had, but that she gave from her want?
We read: For all they (the rich) did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want cast in all she had, even her whole living. [Mark 12:44]
The clue of the real message of universal reach lies at the beginning of the verse. When we give from our excess - where is the sacrifice? We must give of what we do not have extra to spare. This principle is applicable to anything we may offer to God - whether is labor, intellectual ability, time and even pain.
To offer self inflicted pain, for example, has no value as compared to offering natural pain - physical or emotional that has come upon us as part of living.
To offer time that we may devote to leisure or to banal societal activities - has great value. To offer time because we may just be bored, has very little value before the Eyes of God. The same logic can be applied to all.

...an indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful, who devoutly visit a cemetery and pray, even if only mentally, for the departed. The indulgence is plenary each day from the 1st to the 8th of November; on other days of the year it is partial. (1)
Let us give a break to our brethren in Purgatory - many of whom have no one praying for them. Human rights activists worry much about individuals serving lengthy sentences in earthly prison; they may even run a campaign to shorten the sentence or obtain a parole. Let's emulate these human rights activists in the supernatural domain and bring joy and relief to the many souls who are waiting to finally go Home to the Father.
We have the consolation to know that those in Purgatory are serving a just sentence since God is Perfectly Just, but.... let's be charitable and, while acknowledging the just sentence, invoke His Divine Mercy (1) upon them by practicing this beautiful devotion.

historian ever read the the Holy Books of Judaism? Specifically the Book of Nevi'in (Book of the
Prophets) which we have on our hands right now and where, in Chapter 8 of 1 Samuel God says to
Samuel, in response to the request by the elders of Israel to appoint a King to rule over
them: "Heed the demand of the people in everything they say to you. For it is not you
that they have rejected; it is Me they have rejected as their king."
Brethren, that quote is straight out of their Sacred Writings - The Tanakh... and the fool quoted
in the news is supposed to be a "...renowned Israeli biblical scholar and historian..."?
Who can possibly doubt that we are within the period spoken about in the Book of Revelations
13:5? How can we possibly remain charitable (2) with these people
when, everywhere we turn, "the experts" are so blind that they could not "punch their way out of
an already partially torn paper sack" even if provided with the instructions in Braille?
