A Post Script (PS) to the Garabandal Events

INTRODUCTION / BACKGROUND

Earlier miguel de Portugal wrote....

Upon bringing a complex question to Heaven about the Garabandal manifestations and their format, I received an instantaneous response. The theo-logic of the response, of course, strengthens the Garabandal's case - were that still possible.

It also explained the statement which is part of the last message (1) - "You are now receiving the last warnings."

I am truly amazed at the timing. As we were composing this text, we just realized that today is June 18th, the 46th anniversary of the last and most dramatic message. We will publish the details soon.

Here are the details.....

DETAILS

In the very early '90's (1991 or 1992), after reading the collection of straightforward testimonies from most residents of Garabandal (2) (published by Ramón Pérez in his "Garabandal - el pueblo habla") my comments to a dear friend, a theology professor priest, were:

As a scientist, after reviewing those testimonies from these very simple people - whose minds are not cluttered by the preconceptions and "scientific" knowledge which clutters the mind of First World country citizens - all I can say is that everyone should believe the supernatural reality of those messages and act upon them as if their lives depended upon it.

This priest knew me well: my scientific background, as well as the state of my soul after seven years of a radically different life, completely centered on God. He marveled at my remarks.... and soon thereafter experienced a massive conversion, abandoned academia, and became a parish priest in a parish where the Holy Rosary was prayed daily and the Exposed Blessed Sacrament was adored one day a week. Now, regarding the response from Heaven to our question, as we mentioned at the start of this document:

Why were the Garabandal ecstasies so many (over 2,000), and so obviously and spectacularly dramatic for the thousands upon thousands (millions?) of onlookers who streamed through that village from 1961 to 1965? Why were they so different from most Marian apparitions to date?

Simply because God had tried all else - up to and including the spectacular miracles in Fatima on October 13, 1917, witnessed by ca. 70,000 individuals (believers and non believers alike) - to no avail (4).

In Garabandal, thousands upon thousands of people would be able to "take home" whatever they witnessed, with ample confirmations, in those ecstasies: be it the transfiguration of the faces of the visionaries; be it the ecstatic marches and everything associated with them; be it the physical alterations of the visionaries - weight as well as feel to the touch; be it the many times the apparition read the mind of a visitor who was trying to "test it" and acted upon such information; be it the multitude of apparently impossible situations associated with the blessings of religious objects and their return to the rightful owners; etc.

Heaven turned Garabandal into a "spiritual souvenir shop" from which all visitors could take home - free of charge - the experience of real miracles, completely unexplainable by the most dedicated-to-debunk-the-supernatural scientists. People made much to-do about the "little miracle", as Conchita called the visible communion given to her by the Archangel Michael. However, from a cold scientific point of view, every ecstasy was accompanied by a number of obvious and durable miracles which, in our opinion, surpassed the one time that the host, for a fleeting moment, became visible on Conchita's tongue. To us, that would have been worthy of just a footnote compared to all other events associated with the ecstasies.

That is - everyone who witnessed an ecstasy took away a confirmed miraculous experience - not a "so and so told me that..." or "while Conchita was talking she said..." or "one feels something special there", etc., etc. (that is, the same general stories that one may have heard from witnesses to most Marian Apparitions, except from those present at the miracle in Fatima on October 13, 1917).

Everyone who witnessed an ecstasy, without question, took back home a confirmed miraculous experience: an experience which should have made all who streamed through Garabandal between 1961 and 1965 take the last message....

As my message of October 18 (1961) has not be complied with and has not been made known to the world, I am advising you that this is the last one. Before, the cup was filling up. Now it is flowing over. Many cardinals, many bishops and many priests are on the road to perdition and are taking many souls with them. Less and less importance is being given to the Eucharist. You should turn the wrath of God away from yourselves by your efforts. If you ask His forgiveness with sincere hearts, He will pardon you. I, your mother, through the intercession (intervention) of St. Michael the Archangel , ask you to amend your lives. You are now receiving the last warnings. I love you very much and do not want your condemnation. Pray to Us with sincerity and We will grant your requests. You should make more sacrifices. Think about the passion of Jesus.

...to heart and act upon it as if their lives and those of their families depended upon it... which it did and does!

THE TRAGEDY

Quoting a statement made by a close collaborator of The M+G+R Foundation regarding Garabandal:

I regularly attended church in 1961-1965, with attendance at chapel in the Episcopal Day School, and with regular Sunday attendance at our Episcopal parish. Garabandal was never mentioned; nor was any other Marian apparition.

I only heard about Garabandal when I became apparition-aware in 1991/1992, even though I was an active (Protestant) Christian again from 1978 onward.

Certainly, during the 1980s, I was an adult, actively Christian, and thought I was well informed … but I knew nothing of this phenomenon. By contrast, I think I heard about Medjugorje from 1984 or so onward – and placed it into a Cold War context, since Yugoslavia was then Communist.

To which miguel de Portugal adds:

The theology professor priest mentioned above had not even heard about Sister Faustina or the Divine Mercy phenomena until I appointed him my Spiritual Director and instructed him about it. This appointment was obviously from God, since that contact triggered the priest's much needed conversion.

More typical fruit of a completely failed Evangelization effort.

CONCLUSION

Indeed the world was then "receiving the last warnings". Any and all subsequent apparitions – actual or alleged – were and are just secondary reminders that the die had been cast back in 1965, or was it really in 1962 during the two Nights of Screams when Mary....

....told us that we should not wait for the Chastisement, because it will come without being expected because the world has not changed and She has told us so twice, and we do not pay attention to Her, since the world is worse. The world should change much and it has not changed at all. Prepare yourselves, confess, the Chastisement will come soon, and the world does not change. I say: the world is always the same, it is a shame that it does not change. If it does not change, a great Chastisement will come soon. (5)

EPILOGUE

But do not despair.... the consolation for the Elect has been clearly spelled out in chapter 3 of the Book of Wisdom:

1 But the souls of the just are in the hand of God, and the torment of death shall not touch them. 2 In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die: and their departure was taken for misery: 3 And their going away from us, for utter destruction: but they are in peace. 4 And though in the sight of men they suffered torments, their hope is full of immortality. 5 Afflicted in few things, in many they shall be well rewarded: because God hath tried them, and found them worthy of himself.

6 As gold in the furnace he hath proved them, and as a victim of a holocaust he hath received them, and in time there shall be respect had to them. 7 The just shall shine, and shall run to and fro like sparks among the reeds. 8 They shall judge nations, and rule over people, and their Lord shall reign for ever. 9 They that trust in him, shall understand the truth: and they that are faithful in love shall rest in him: for grace and peace is to his elect. 10 But the wicked shall be punished according to their own devices: who have neglected the just, and have revolted from the Lord.

May God be Thrice Glorified - Glory to the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost!
