Chapter 1 verses 12-18a have been omitted
from the Mass readings.
[12] Now, brethren, I desire you should know, that the things which have happened to me, have
fallen out rather to the furtherance of the gospel: [13] So that my bands are made manifest in
Christ, in all the court, and in all other places; [14] And many of the brethren in the Lord,
growing confident by my bands, are much more bold to speak the word of God without fear. [15] Some
indeed, even out of envy and contention; but some also for good will preach Christ. [16] Some out
of charity, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. [17] And some out of contention
preach Christ not sincerely: supposing that they raise affliction to my bands. [18] But what
then?...
Chapter 2 verses 19-30 have been omitted from the Mass readings.
[19] And I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy unto you shortly, that I also may be of good
comfort, when I know the things concerning you. [20] For I have no man so of the same mind, who
with sincere affection is solicitous for you. [21] For all seek the things that are their own; not
the things that are Jesus Christ's. [22] Now know ye the proof of him, that as a son with the
father, so hath he served with me in the gospel. [23] Him therefore I hope to send unto you
immediately, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me. [24] And I trust in the Lord, that I
myself also shall come to you shortly.
[25] But I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow labourer, and fellow soldier, but your apostle, and he that hath ministered to my wants. [26] For indeed he longed after you all: and was sad, for that you had heard that he was sick. [27] For indeed he was sick, nigh unto death; but God had mercy on him; and not only on him, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. [28] Therefore I sent him the more speedily: that seeing him again, you may rejoice, and I may be without sorrow. [29] Receive him therefore with all joy in the Lord; and treat with honour such as he is. [30] Because for the work of Christ he came to the point of death: delivering his life, that he might fulfill that which on your part was wanting towards my service.

[1] As to the rest, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me
indeed is not wearisome, but to you it is necessary. [2] Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers,
beware of the concision. ...[13] Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended. But one
thing I do: forgetting the things that are behind, and stretching forth myself to those that are
before, [14] I press towards the mark, to the prize of the supernal vocation of God in Christ
Jesus. [15] Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded; and if in any thing you be
otherwise minded, this also God will reveal to you. [16] Nevertheless whereunto we are come, that
we be of the same mind, let us also continue in the same rule.
Chapter 4 verses 2-3 and 21-23 have been omitted from the Mass readings.
[2] I beg of Evodia, and I beseech Syntyche, to be of one mind in the Lord. [3] And I entreat thee
also, my sincere companion, help those women who have laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement
and the rest of my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.
[21] Salute ye every saint in Christ Jesus. [22] The brethren who are with me, salute you. All the
saints salute you; especially they that are of Caesar's household. [23] The grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
