PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to show that what is reported at the Earthquake List for Map Centered at 44°N, 110°W (1) – a hot spot in the Yellowstone caldera area - does not match what the seismographs of the area are showing.

Although the list is for "Map Centered at 44°N, 110°W",  that list includes earthquakes that take place at 109°W as well as the ones that take place at 111°W. The sector covered by this map corresponds to the Yellowstone Region. The earthquake stations used for this document, which register the Yellowstone portions localized at  44°N, 110°W are those identified as "Yellowstone Regions" in the University of Utah Seismographs as YMV, YSB, YHH, YHB, YMC, YHH, YMR, YUF, YJC, YMP, YPK, YML, LKW, YLA, YLT, YFT, YTP, YPP and MCID. (2)

BACKGROUND

The earthquakes reported on both lists (where the earthquakes reported are always the ones that occurred during the previous 6 to 7 days) are not necessarily the same. For example, as of June 7, 2011:

The UUSS (University of Utah Seismograph Stations) (2) reported the following list for the period studied:

A marked difference. For the period studied, the USGS reported 6 earthquakes, while the University of Utah reported 14 quakes. The quakes that appeared in both lists are in bold in the list above.

At this point we should also note that the earthquakes reported on the last 7 days throughout the world at the USGS page (3) only cover earthquakes of a magnitude of 2.5 or larger in the United States and adjacent areas, plus those of 4.5 magnitude or greater in the rest of the world. For that reason, none of the earthquakes reported on the Yellowstone area appear on that (3) page.

On the other hand, not all of the earthquakes recorded on the seismographs are reported on the previously mentioned pages. As an example, on Intellicast - Weather Active Map (4) there was a report of an earthquake of 3.1 magnitude for the region of Wyoming on Jun 4, 2011, at 20:00:22 GMT. (GMT=UTC). (See Attachment 1)  However, here the exceptions are minor.

Should the reader wish to locate the Yellowstone area in time and in space, a visit to Attachment 2 will be of assistance. In that same Attachment 2, some of the reported earthquakes that appear on the previous lists, are identified.

INTRODUCTION

To facilitate the comparative analysis, we will work with the events that are reflected in several of the stations that cover Yellowstone's Region. After identifying those which are not publicly reported on the appropriate pages (but which appear on the seismograms) we have calculated and report their magnitude as computed using the Bolt method. (5)

It is not our intention to do an inventory of every event that was not reported as it should have been. To fulfill the purpose of this document it suffices to: (a) select 11 days of non-reported events to be used as sample / test; (b) then select 9 days of reported events and compare the reported magnitude with the magnitude that results from the Bolt method. The period under evaluation comprises from June 2, 2011 to June 25, 2011.

If the reader wishes to confirm the information that we are presenting it will not be possible to access the page of the seismographs of the University of Utah since they only  reflect the last 7 days. However, there are two pages (6) where you could select the day, the month and the year and generate a report of each one of the stations of the Yellowstone Region, (excluding the stations of the Tetons Region).

If you wish to get an idea of the distances between Yellowstone's stations you may do so by Clicking Here.

Those events are located on the seismograms that correspond to the local date at UTC hour. For example, the event recorded on seismogram of June 8, 2011 at 1:22:01 UTC, occurred at local time 7:22:01 PM (MDT) and was reported by USGS as occurring on June 9, 2011 at 1:22:01 UTC (Attachments 16-a, 16-b and 16-c).

CONCLUSIONS by The M+G+R Foundation

In the document (7) where we presented the steady increase of worldwide seismic activity, we stated:

Seismic activity is accurately recorded worldwide and routinely reported by the appropriate governmental agencies.  The media controllers do not think that "anyone out there" is capable of discerning a conclusive pattern.

Obviously that may have been true in 2002 but, as the ample data presented in this Study shows: the only information that one can be sure of - at least right now - is the raw readings of the seismographs since in the official pages appear only what "The Masters" wish to be known by those who visit those pages.
