Sabinian : 604-606 A.D.
65. Born in Blera. Elected September 13, 604 - died February 22,
606.
Before his election the Holy See
remained vacant for 6 months.
He regulated the ringing of the bells to remind people of the
canonical hours for meditation and prayer. He ordered that oil lamps in
the church must burn continuously. He always used a portable bell
during functions.
He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. He was a Pope for 1 year and 5
months.
Boniface III : 607 A.D.
66. Born in Rome. Elected February 19, 607 - died November 12, 607.
He prohibited arrangements for the
election of the new Pope until
three days after the death of the reigning Pope.
Later, Gregory X imposed a period of 9 days and Pius XI brought it
up to 15 days to allow cardinals from far away countries to travel to
Rome in time for the conclave.
Boniface III established that only the Bishop of Rome could
call himself Ecumenical.
He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. He was pope for only 8 months
and 23 days.
St. Boniface IV : 608-615 A.D.
67. Born in Abruzzo region. Elected August 25, 608 - died May 8, 615
He converted the Pantheon from a
pagan temple, dedicated by
Agrippa to all the gods, into a church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin
and the Saints.
He instituted All Saints Day on November 1st. The institution
of a commemoration day for all the Christian dead a attributed to him.
He morally and materially improved the lower clergy.
His body rests in the Vatican Basilica. He governed the church for
6 years and 8 months.
St. Adeodatus II : 615-618 A.D.
68. Born in Rome. Elected October 10, 615 - died November 8, 618.
He tended to the lepers and the
plague-stricken with heroic deeds.
His lead seal for official documents is known as the oldest and
it is kept in the Vatican together with his first Papal Bull.
He is buried in the Vatican Grottoes. His pontificate lasted 3
years and 19 days.
