He regulated the ringing of the bells to remind people of the canonical hours for meditation and prayer. He ordered that oil lamps in the church must burn continuously. He always used a portable bell during functions.

He prohibited arrangements for the election of the new Pope until three days after the death of
the reigning Pope.
Later, Gregory X imposed a period of 9 days and Pius XI brought it up to 15 days to allow cardinals from far away countries to travel to Rome in time for the conclave.
Boniface III established that only the Bishop of Rome could call himself Ecumenical.
